Topic:
1. Overview of Public Health Agency of Canada, Violence Prevention Unit, and how they work with Justice Canada and PreVAIL to address violence prevention at the policy level, and the Family Violence Initiative (FVI). Since collaboration between Justice and Health are critical to family violence prevention, Joanne Lacroix and Gillian Blackell would briefly and respectively describe the role of PHAC and Justice within the Initiative, but also stimulate discussion and questions with the audience on how to strengthen collaborative work between health and justice in violence prevention and response.
2. Discussion on PreVAIL (Preventing Violence Across the Lifespan) and its existing projects (eg. The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP)).
PreVAIL: Preventing Violence Across the Lifespan, is an international research collaboration of over 50 researchers and partners from Canada, the US, the UK, Asia, Europe and Australia, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research's Institute for Gender and Health (2009-2014).
