Following the first exchange aimed at understanding and intervening on street/youth gangs, which was held in Brussels in April 2009, the ICPC and the Youth Center of Montreal-University Institute (CJM-IU) hosted a delegation of ten Belgian representatives from October 19th to 22nd 2009. The professional visit aimed to familiarize them with the approach and activities on street gang prevention conducted in Quebec
On this occasion, a meeting was organized in partnership with the Montreal Youth Center, bringing together some sixty people: prosecutors, field organizations, local officials, police, civil servants and journalists. Belgium’s approach to youth gangs was presented and a dialogue begun between the respective practices, regarding methods of recording information and monitoring young people suspected of belonging to gangs.
