Towards new methods of policing

ICPC Lunch Seminar in partnership with the Centre International de Criminologie Comparée (CICC) / May 21, 2010, Montreal (Canada)

Author(s) : Anaïk Purenne, Anne Wuilleumier

Anaïk Purenne, Dr. of Sociology and Researcher at l'Universite de Lyon, and Anne Wuilleumier, Dr. of Political Science and Researcher at l’Institut National des Hautes Etudes de la Sécurité et de la Justice (INHESJ) presented their findings on trends in police operations. They found that the arbitrary use of force by police officers, and subjective assessments, are frequently seen as unlawful or ineffective. The increasing use of such tools as crime mapping, crime analysis and surveillance cameras provides a basis for developing a more “objective” assessment of problems.
