6th International Report on Crime Prevention and Community Safety: Preventing Cybercrime (in production)

Author(s) : CIPC

Published every two years since 2008, the International Report on Crime Prevention and Community Safety is a flagship product of the ICPC and an essential tool to help governments, local authorities, international organizations and other actors implement successful crime prevention policies in their countries, cities and communities.

The International Centre for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC) is currently working on its 6th International Report on Crime Prevention and Community Safety to be published in 2018. For this Report, we have chosen Cybercrime as the main focus. The rise of cybercriminal attacks over the past few years, the incidence of this type of crimes in daily life and the increasing costs associated with cybercrime in different countries demonstrate the necessity to develop new preventive methods and tools. On the one hand, cybercrime implies a change in the medium used for traditional crimes, in which the Internet is now used for the development of criminal activities or to encounter potential victims. On the other hand, it also implies the appearance of a new type of criminality that is oriented towards information crime. This change entails reconsidering prevention methods and practices. This Report is a step in this direction.
