ICPC’s second mission in Bogotá, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá and the City Hall

On May 12 and 13 2016, mandated by the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá, ICPC carried out the second part of its mission in assisting the City Hall in developing a prevention policy regarding crime and feelings of insecurity in public transport in Bogotá.

In the framework of this second mission, two main workshops were on the agenda:

The first workshop mainly consisted in defining the action plan for a security diagnostic within the Transmilenio in Bogotá. This will enable a better understanding of the local reality in terms of crime and will more specifically help understand the risk and protection factors related to each area. This diagnostic will help establish:

§  The profile of victims and perpetrators

§  Situational elements encouraging criminal acts and increasing feelings of insecurity, and

§  Social elements encouraging criminal acts and increasing feelings of insecurity.

Based on the evaluation of these situations that are specific to each area, it will be possible to draft efficient preventive measures, adapted to the local dynamics.

The second workshop presented preventive measures to implement in the short term. ICPC also shared effective models implemented in other countries, then focus groups were formed to discuss how to apply these practices to the local context.
