Edition 16 - May 2003

  • ICPC launches the Spanish version of the International Observer.
  • A review of the Caribbean Regional United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, with the support of the pilot study in Barbados on the perceptions of youth towards drug use, produced by the Global Assessment Programme (GAP) and assisted by the Barbados Ministry of Education.
  • An article on Guidelines on Justice for Child Victims and Witnesses of Crimes.

Edition 15 - April 2003

  • ICPC provides a description of recent developments in crime prevention policy and practice in the Netherlands. This includes a country profile, an interview with Mr. Peter Levenkamp, Director, Youth and Crime Prevention, Dutch Ministry of Justice on key principles and issues in Dutch crime prevention, links to key crime prevention ministries and organizations, and relevant publications on crime prevention initiatives in the Netherlands.

Edition 14 - March 2003

  • A report on a visit from Mr. Yves Van de Vloet, Permanent Secretary for the Belgian Ministry of the Interior’s Prevention.
  • A review of the province of Québec’s Ministry of Public Security release of its Departmental Crime Prevention Policy, Making our Communities Safer for Everyone, in 2001
  • A note on Visiting Scholars at the ICPC.
  • A report on France’s new measures to prevent and respond to race-related incidents in schools.

Edition 13 - February 2003

  • Terrance Hunsley, Director General comments on ICPC’s work priorities in 2003. Myriam Ezratty, President of ICPC addresses governance issues of ICPC. Daniel Sansfaçon, Deputy Director discusses some of ICPC’s priority projects within the evolving discourse on effective crime prevention.
  • An article on implementing effective crime prevention and community safety strategies in the UK.
  • News items include: Crime Prevention in the Czech Republic, and  a European Crime Prevention Network  (EUCPN) conference in Denmark.

Edition 12 - January 2003

Edition 10 - November 2002

  • The Australian Institute of Criminology Crime Prevention Conference, hosted in Sydney, Australia, and held in conjunction with the Crime Prevention Branch, Attorney General’s Department.
  • Good Practice in prevention which focus on youth: Streetwize Networks Project in Bassendean, Western Australia, and Public Allies Program, United States.
  • A summary of proceedings on the Gender Equality and Local Governance conference, held on September 26 and 27, 2002 in Gatineau, Québec, Canada.

Edition 9 - October 2002

  • An article written by Daniel Sansfacon, Deputy Director, ICPC, on Lessons for Prevention and Community Safety through Examination of Drug Policies and Practices. Also featured in this edition are two practices that are designed to respond to the challenges posed by the presence of drug users in the community. These include: The Coffee Shop as Forum in Modena, Italy, and the Heroin Assisted Treatment Project, (HAT) in Switzerland.
  • News items include: The World Report on Violence and Health, the Senate Special Committee report on illegal drugs, the World Forum on Drugs and Dependencies 2002, and Quebec’s crime prevention week.

Edition 8 - September 2002

  • A focus on Gender and Crime Prevention, including a position paper written by Margaret Shaw, Director of Analysis & Exchange, ICPC. Also featured is a practice which exemplifies some of the requirements for good information and analysis which underlie the development of crime prevention strategies, and which deals with issues of gender.
  • A note on ICPC’s second annual colloquium and information on the Centre for Information and Research on Organized Crime (CIROC), founded in 2001 by the departments of criminology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Edition 7 - August 2002

  • ICPC welcomes Ms. Judy Klipin to our office as a Visiting Scholar, who is researching various elements of policing and crime prevention as part of her sabbatical year.
  • Details on the first international conference on “Youth at risk and in conflict with the law in Africa”, which took place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa from June 17 to 19 2002. It includes a conference background paper prepared by Lully Tshiwula (University of Port Elizabeth) and  ICPC’s Margaret Shaw.
  • Crime prevention and policing in Norway.
