FCM launches its “A City Tailored to Women” publication at
the World Urban Forum in Barcelona

On September 15, 2004, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities officially launched a new publication at the World Urban Forum during a networking session focusing on inclusive practices for women in cities. The publication, entitled A City Tailored to Women: The Role of Municipal Governments in Achieving Gender Equality, is the result of a cooperative effort between femmes et Villes and the International Centre for Municipal Development of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

A City Tailored to Women provides a tool for municipal governments to assess the impact of  all their decisions on the quality of life of women and adjust their actions accordingly to become more inclusive. The publication records women’s experiences from five continents and invites municipal governments to create a social environment where women can participate fully in city life for the benefit of all communities.   It also provides references to organizations, events and publications that are available on the Internet.
