URBACT Community Initiative Programme

The URBACT Community Initiative Programme in France aims to develop transnational exchange of experience between actors, whether cities or other programmes, urban programmes, or pilot projects, and to capitalize on these projects, by drawing on the lessons learned, noting both their successes and weaknesses. URBACT aims to strengthen the capacity of towns and cities to respond to the economic and social challenges facing them, and to inform community policies in the urban renewal field, by drawing on concrete local experience.

It is expected that URBACT will create a flow of good practice exchanges between participating cities by the setting up of thematic networks designed to bring together on a voluntary basis, cities, private partners, and citizens to discuss such topics as social exclusion, public-private partnerships, urban crime prevention and citizen participation.
