The Role of the Private Sector in Community Safety and Crime Prevention

In August 2004, ICPC did a special issue in the International Observer on the role of business in crime prevention and public-private partnerships in community safety.  It included an introductory article on Crime Prevention and the Private Sector, an interview on the role of Canada's Business Network on Crime Prevention, and an interview on public-private collaboration with the US based Security Industry Association.  It also contained descriptions of  various projects and initiatives, links to several national business networks, and recent publications in the area.

In preparation for our upcoming Colloquium (2005) that will include as one of  its themes, the role of the private sector in crime prevention, we would like to encourage and invite our readers to keep us up-to-date on the work you may be doing in the following areas: business partnerships in community safety strategies, private security, business sponsored prevention intiatives, business crime, corporate social responsibility and crime prevention, and/or other relevant topics or research interests in this area.  Your submissions could include research reports and papers, practices, tools, compendiums, information on networks, guides, etc.

Your input would help us to better frame our program agenda for this year's event and help to encourage much needed exchange and debate in this area.
