Reporting to the Community Crime Prevention Board, through its Chair, the Manager of the City’s Community Crime Prevention body is responsible to develop, manage, and evaluate all programs of the Community Crime Prevention body to achieve the vision of significantly reducing crime and increasing community safety within Ottawa. Directs the strategic planning process and operations of the Community Crime Prevention body including organizational structure and job design, and manages financial and human resources and works with City Council, Senior Management of the City of Ottawa, local community organizations, and key local, provincial and national public safety partners to develop and implement the Community Crime Prevention body’s plans and programs. Accountable for:
co-ordinating and mobilizing key players and resources; developing a clear mandate for the organization with specific priorities and targets; conducting strategic analysis of Ottawa crime and its causes; developing and implementing an action plan; providing expertise, resources, and capacity development; evaluating process and outcomes; seeking additional funds from all levels of government, private sector and key stakeholders; improving quality of Ottawa crime and victimization data and information; gaining community involvement and conducting public consultations; developing a communication strategy for community awareness and education; hiring, suspension of, and performance management of staff; and reporting regularly to the Community Crime Prevention Board and HRSS on Community Crime Prevention body activities and progress.
Statement of Qualifications:
Honours Bachelor Degree; Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements; 5 years of professional experience in strategy and policy development or community mobilization, with a strong focus on emergency or social services program development and delivery; 5 years managerial experience in progressively more responsible positions providing public speaking, group facilitation, and media relations, and negotiating agreements and contracts; A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated and have own transportation; and Successful candidate must be able to pass a criminal record check to the satisfaction of the City of Ottawa.
Knowledge of:
Effective communication and consensus-building strategies and techniques; Organizational change and management concepts; Community development/building techniques; Structure and processes of government/ public and non-profit sector organizations; Relevant municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and jurisdictions and accountabilities for developing, implementing and reviewing organizational plans; Operating and capital budget preparation; General Management techniques and practices; Strategic and operational planning techniques; Research and analysis methodologies; Cost-benefit analysis methods Tendering and negotiating techniques to participate in multi-party negotiations; Contract management and Alternative Service Delivery (ASD) methods and Must be capable through experience, knowledge and training of identifying actual or potential work place hazards associated with areas of responsibility. Must complete Supervisor/Manager Health and Safety training upon hire. Must successfully complete hazard specific health and safety training based on areas of responsibility.

Language:
Oral fluency, reading and writing ability in French and English.
