IBCR releases 2004-2005 Annual Report

IBCR marks 10 years of success with the release of its 2004-2005 Annual Report

The International Bureau of Children’s Rights (IBCR) has released its latest Annual Report, which covers activities and results between April 1st 2004 and March 31st 2005.
IBCR maintains good working relations with various UN organizations, including the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice affiliated to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna.

The report highlights the advancements made by IBCR in its mission to secure the rights of children worldwide through the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

IBCR initiatives taken in 2004-2005 include:

The preliminary study on child trafficking in Canada at the request of the Canadian Department of Justice.

The Conference Making Children’s Rights Work: National and
International Perspectives, which brought together key players in the field of children’s rights from Canada and abroad and was held in Montreal in November of 2004 to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the Convention Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

Significant progress in the collection and analysis of information on the status of children’s rights in countries that have ratified the CRC.

In addition, IBCR has actively participated in the process leading to the adoption of resolution 2004/27 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to convene an intergovernmental expert group to develop guidelines in matters involving child victims and witnesses of crime – based on the guidelines initially drafted by IBCR. It should be noted that the new UN Guidelines on Matters Involving Child Victims and Witnesses of Crime have since been adopted both by the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (May 2005) and ECOSOC (July 2005).
