Season's Greetings and Happy New Year

ICPC would like to take this opportunity to wish all our members, collaborators, and readers a safe and memorable holiday season, and a happy new year 2006!

A word from ICPC's new Director, Valerie Sagant

Following the call for candidatures last May, ICPC’s Board of Directors selected Ms Valerie Sagant to be ICPC’s Director General.  She began her duties as DG in November 1st 2005.

ICPC – Ms SAGANT, it is a great pleasure for us to welcome you as the new Director General of ICPC. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a French magistrate. After completing my studies in Law and Political Science, I enrolled at the National School for magistrates which offers a three-year training programme for legal professions. Upon graduation, I was appointed as investigating judge in Nancy. I was in charge of prevention policy and victim assistance at the Ministry of Justice. I also worked for 4 years for the Interministerial Delegation for Cities, and was responsible for crime prevention issues. For three and a half years, I participated in the development and implementation of international policy at the Ministry of Justice.

ICPC's Fifth Annual Colloquium

Marking the first ICPC event to be held in Latin America, ICPC’s fifth annual colloquium took place in Santiago, Chile from October 27-28, and centered on the theme Strategic Partnerships for Effective Crime Prevention. The event was coordinated by ICPC in partnership with Chile’s Ministry of the Interior. The United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) graciously provided the space in which to hold the event. Interest in crime prevention in Latin America was manifestly high and ICPC was very pleased with the strong Latin American representation. Media interest in the event also ran high, and numerous radio interviews were conducted with Daniel Sansfaçon of ICPC.

Speakers from at least 13 different countries traversed the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Oceania to present their experiences in crime prevention, highlighting several case studies throughout the two days.
