Australia honours 2005 crime prevention award winnersNew South Wales’ Circle Sentencing Nowra, Western Australia’s Operation Burglary Countdown, and Victoria’s Shepparton Koori Court were heralded as the national winners of the 2005 Australian Crime and Violence Prevention Awards (www.aic.gov.au/avpa/2005.html). These annual awards recognize the exceptional work being done in crime prevention around the country and hope to inspire the development of further innovative projects to reduce and prevent crime and violence. Many of the year’s winning projects center on the important role of crime prevention in indigenous communities.
