Commentary on French Riots
‘1295 cars burned’, ‘molotov cocktails discovered’, ‘schools attacked’, ‘Paris is burning’, these are just some of the many phrases that graced headlines over the last few weeks as France struggled to control urban rioters. To increase understanding about the impact of these events, ICPC conducted a preliminary press review highlighting how urban violence was being represented in various print media around the world (available here).
Raymonde Dury, President of ICPC, published an article in Belgium’s La Libre on the urban riots in France ( we include an English translation of the original article here). Affirming the strength of international comparison and exchange of experience, Mme. Dury’s article explores international parallels to the alleged causes of the terrible events in France in the fall of 2005.
