European Policy on Crime Prevention
On February 23rd 2006, the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS) is hosting a meeting on European Crime Prevention Policy in partnership with the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, and with the support of the Vice President of the European Commission responsible for Freedom, security and justice.
The following issues will be addressed:
• Twenty years of local integrated policies within a European network, EFUS;
• Current challenges: emerging problems, redefining areas of intervention, and the globalization of security;
• Existing responses of European institutions and organizations, synergies to be identified, and confronting human rights issues;
• The fundamental role of local authorities in the development and implementation of effective and balanced prevention policies, citizen participation - imperative to security policies aimed at augmenting social cohesion.
Mr Philip WILLEKENS will represent the ICPC at the upcoming EFUS meeting. Mr. Willekens is Advisor to the Secretariat permanent à la politique de prévention (Permanent secretariat to prevention policy) of the Federal Public Service Home Affaires, Belgium, and a member of ICPC’s Advisory and Policy Committee.
