The Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention, South Africa
The Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention (CJCP) is a non-profit organization based in Cape Town, South Africa, under the direction of Eric Pelser, Executive Director. The CJCP was incorporated in September 2005 and joins the South African Alliance for Crime Prevention, a network of organizations who work in the crime prevention field. The Centre aims to “develop, inform and promote evidence-based crime prevention practice in South Africa” and, where appropriate, in other developing countries.
Specifically, CJCP conducts research on a variety of topics related to crime prevention, and ensures dissemination of said information. Research areas include “youth victimization and social development, building protective factors among youth, school safety, women’s victimization and social development, and identifying best practices in crime prevention. This research may then be used in policy creation or in developing crime prevention strategies, for example. CJCP also assists with project implementation and offers training in crime prevention to relevant actors.
