On May 5, 2006, the University Institute of the Centre jeunesse de Montréal (Montreal Youth Centre) which is affiliated with the University of Montreal and Université du Quebec à Montreal announced the establishment of the Centre of Expertise on Youth Crime (CEDJ). The key objectives of the centre are to:
• Develop innovative knowledge-based practices.
• Support their implementation in regular programming.
• Evaluate their implementation and results.
• Foster teaching and research in this domain.
The CEDJ will also focus on issues which have been rarely examined until now:
• Matching clients with programmes - sentence- practitioner.
• Validating diagnostic and predictive tools.
• Replicating programmes, interventions or practices.
The development of the CEDJ will be supported by a Permanent Consultative Committee composed of individuals or institutional organizations. The mandate of the Committee is “to consult and make recommendations regarding the orientations of CEDJ and on the projects and steps best suited to support its development, as well as to remain up-to-date on the evolution of the Centre’s projects”.
The International Centre for the Prevention of Crime was invited by the Centre jeunesse de Montréal to be a member of this permanent Consultative Committee and will be represented by Mr Serges Bruneau, Director of Projects.
