Message from the Director General

2004 – AN EXCITING YEAR FOR ICPC (continued)

This year ICPC will also inaugurate a new service for crime prevention professionals.  In partnership with the University of Ottawa, we will launch a professional development institute with a one-week in-residence program leading to an international certificate in the strategic implementation of crime prevention.

These and lots of other exciting projects make our current work program a real challenge. Projects such as an international city exchange program for mutual learning in crime prevention; a new observatory to monitor the implementation of Quebec’s crime prevention policy; a network of researchers and practitioners working with indigenous groups in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. We will also regenerate our police and prevention program after a year of hiatus, with the assistance of Richard St Denis, an Assistant Director General of the Quebec Police who is with us as a loaned resource.

Check out these and other initiatives in our 2004-2006 work program, which is attached to this issue of the IO. ICPC benefits from the participation of our member governments and organizations in our projects, and of course, we are always delighted to welcome new governments - national, regional, local; and new national and international organizations involved in crime prevention work. Join us!
