National Crime Prevention Centre - Canada

National Crime Prevention Centre integrated into a new portfolio

On December 12, 2003, Prime Minister Paul Martin announced the creation of the new portfolio of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (PSEPC). It includes emergency preparedness, crisis management, national security, corrections, policing, oversight, crime prevention and border functions. This new department will integrate the core activities of the existing Solicitor General to secure the safety of Canadians and other activities required to protect against and respond to natural disasters and security emergencies.

The National Crime Prevention Centre (NCPC), formerly under the Department of Justice, has now been integrated into the new portfolio, as was the Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness, previously under the Department of National Defence.

The objectives of NCPC remain the same as before, among others, to support actively crime prevention activities in Canada. These measures were taken to maximize emergency preparedness and responses to natural disaster and security emergencies, as well as improving connections to provincial and territorial emergency preparedness networks.

The National Crime Prevention Centre also moved to a new location. Their new address is:

National Crime Prevention Centre
Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

222 Queen St., 11th Floor

Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0P8
