Improving Policing for Women in the Asia Pacific Region

This conference will focus on how policing can be improved for women in the Asia Pacific Region. Within a feminist framework, delegates from Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and Asia will explore how policing can better protect women's human rights, develop strategies to improve the number of women in key decision making positions within policing, and create a network of women that can work to improve policing for women in the Asia Pacific region. The main themes of the conference are: improving the police services provided to women in the Asia Pacific region; women in decision making in policing; and networking.

2nd International Conference Towards a Safer Society - Understanding and Tackling Violence

This conference is designed to promote a dialogue amongst professionals with a concern about violent offenders. It will be of interest to mental health care professionals, social workers, lawyers, prison service professionals, policy makers and researchers. Major themes of the conference include: origins of violent behaviour; assessment of violence risk; management of violent offenders in the community; family violence and stalking; legal and ethical issues; youth violence; alcohol and crime; and spousal violence.

4th International Entertainment Education Conference: Bringing together Stakeholders

From September 26th to 30th 2004 delegates from around the world - social scientists, researchers, health communication experts, educators, marketing professionals, artists, advertising/entertainment media producers/distributors and representatives from government and international funding organisations will come together in Cape Town, South Africa for this event.  Discussions will focus on recent developments in entertainment-education programmes around the world, sharing experiences in Entertainment-Education (EE), opportunities and challenges, and developing a consensus towards further enhancing the EE methodology and field practice. The conference aims to explore varied forms of communication including story telling, songs and drama, mass communication approaches, and related theories and research. 

The conference is led by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Center for Communication Programs (JHU/CCP), along with South African partners, Soul City,  and the Centre for AIDS Development, Research and Evaluation (CADR).
