Visit from Abu Dhabi in Police & Prevention Program

ICPC’s Police Partnership Program is picking up steam, under the leadership of Richard St Denis (picture on right), on loan to ICPC from the Surete of Quebec.  In April, a consultative meeting was held with Chiefs of Police from the Montreal region to discuss the emerging priorities of the program. And at the end of May, ICPC hosted a delegation from the Police Department of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  Abu Dhabi has recently established a community policing and social intervention service, and their officials were very interested to learn about ICPC’s program and to visit Canadian and Quebec community policing, prevention and training programs.

One of the areas of interest in both of these recent events was the possibility that ICPC might organize an international prize for preventive policing.  This suggestion will be the subject of more consultation in the upcoming months, and if the interest remains high, may be proposed to the ICPC governing bodies at the Paris meetings and Colloquium at the end of November, 2004.  In the meantime, we invite anyone interested in the idea of such a prize to make their interest and suggestions known to us, by emailing Richard St-Denis at richard.stdenis@surete.qc.ca .
