2004 Dubai International Best Practice AwardsTen Winners Announced
On July 15, 2004, the ten winners of the Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment were announced from a list of 680. Decided upon by an independent panel of international experts, the winners consist of ten countries whose efforts to improve the quality of life in cities and communities have proven outstanding.
Some of the winners include: Argentina for its Urban Agriculture Programme in Rosario, which seeks to alleviate the plight of families living below the poverty line. Brazil received an award for the Tomorrow’s Seeds Human Development and Urban Poverty Reduction programme in Aurá – a project that seeks to eliminate child labour and increase employment opportunities and income for adults. Canada’s First Nation Community Planning Project also received honours for its efforts to fight discrimination and poverty among indigenous people.
